Savage Monroe Duncan
Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (2012) & Dance Discourse Project with respondent Judith Butler (2013)
Performance and Video developed by Xandra Ibarra and Hentyle Yapp
Dancers: Tadashi Dozono, Diego Gomez, Luke Mendoza, Elijah Odett & Sophia Wagg
Working through their performance-based trainings in burlesque and contemporary/modern dance, Xandra Ibarra and Hentyle Yapp collaborate to question how white womanhood (via Isadora Duncan/Marilyn Monroe) structures their respective performance genres, and how, as queer racialized performers, they use parody to disarm and contend with whiteness, gender, institutions, history, and memory.
