At the height of the pandemic, Survived and Punished CA believed we could free all prisoners from California State Prisons. Our campaigns used various hashtags online like #FreeThemAll #ClemencyNow #EmergencyReleaseNow #MassReleaseNow. We were encouraging people at home to pressure California Governor Gavin Newsom to grant commutations amid the deadly crisis and outbreaks of COVID-19 in prison, jail, juvenile detention and ICE detention centers.

In an effort to support our strategy, I developed a parodic how-to-sign instructional video directed at Governor Newsom. The video includes a mock mass pardon certificate modeled after the State of California Communication Certificates signed by governors to release people from prison.
